Lahti University of Applied Sciences has a lot of experience creating services for local companies, and we have cooperated in many of our student projects. It is particularly encouraged that project work in general and final thesis subjects in particular should deal with real cases from the public and private sector, and that the students perform them under contract or as part of their work for an employer. This practice has led to very favourable results for all parties and increased the employment and employability of students.

Our students are able to relate to the challenges of the world outside the lecture theatre in a realistic manner, due largely to the approach used in Lahti UAS project-based course, also when involved in the application and later implementation stages of European projects students are often informed of all the steps and involved in the proceedings, be it planning, testing and developing results or reporting at intermediate and later stages. Rather than learning that projects are the exception to normal working life the students get to see that in many fields, particularly in energy and the environment, the project approach is very typical for new developments and marketing activities alike.

Lahti UAS has a video conferencing platform that can be used as a communication channel for multicultural student groups and for the lecturers as a conferencing environment. That same environment can also be used as a support tool for virtualized servers for the student groups. The platform can be used in laptops, tablets and smartphones (if needed in the project). We also have a lot of experience of using it as learning and teaching environment.
