PEETS were delighted to be invited to present the findings of their innovative interdisciplinary and multicultural project to the Businet International Student conference at the Royal Society in Edinburgh in November 2017.
The event was attended by over 100 students representing 15 educational establishments throughout Europe. Speaking on behalf of PEETS, Dr Bob Gilmour outlined the development of the project and summarized the key fun learning activities undertaken by the students. This included preliminary research into the renewables industry in Finland, Netherlands and Scotland followed by a 10 day Intensive Study Period (ISP) in Scotland in May 2017. Activities included industrial site visits (whitelee windfarms and Cruachan pumped storage scheme); group work; cultural activities (international dinner and ceilidh). Dale Lyon then emphasized the transformational learning that can take place during a 3 day group project to plan, build and manage three 5m wind turbines at the Constructionarium facility. Feedback on the joint presentation highlighted a significant amount of interest from throughout the students and staff to find out more about the project with the possibility of being able to more fully share it by incorporating elements into projects in their own institutions.
